STEM Career Fair Promotes New Opportunities for Tutors

In partnership with Cummins Inc., Math Corps hosted its first-ever virtual STEM Career Fair on Tuesday, November 4. With over 100 people in attendance, AmeriCorps tutors and alumni from across the country had the opportunity to take part in live panel discussions, ask questions of Cummins professionals, and explore future careers!

Tutors in attendance attended panels based on their career interests – whether that was cybersecurity, engineering, environmental sustainability, or finance. Moderators led the discussions, posing questions about what inspired the panelists to pursue a career in STEM, what strategies have helped them grow, and more.

“I took away that skills needed to start a career in STEM aren’t necessarily gained through education but are things like adaptability and problem solving gained from general work or service experience,” shared one fair attendee.

Another attendee added, “I learned that a new career path is always an option no matter your background. It just takes one step forward.”

We’re proud to partner with Cummins to not only provide career development opportunities for our members, but to also extend our impact to the communities where Cummins employees live and work.

“What makes Cummins so special is how deeply they live their values as an organization,” shared Lindsay Dolce, Chief Policy and Growth Officer. “Their investment in Math Corps is an investment in people. It’s an investment in the tutors who are here today, and an investment in the students and schools who make this work possible.”

Math Corps is on a mission to ensure that students have the skills they need to succeed in the classroom, the workplace, and the broader community. Thank you, Cummins, for supporting this effort!
