COVID-19 has had an incredible impact on our state. The pandemic has increased the need for supportive services, food, shelter and so much more. As our schools, nonprofits and communities continue to work together to meet urgent needs, AmeriCorps is here to help.
This summer, ServeMinnesota’s AmeriCorps Emergency Response Initiative will mobilize more than 700 people to help address critical needs across the state. Providing much needed support for education and youth enrichment, housing and homelessness, food scarcity, as well as health and wellness, members will serve 35 hours a week for ten weeks at a variety of community partners.
“With layoffs, social isolation and the challenges of distance learning, we know the needs across Minnesota are incredible,” explains Alana Simes, Program Director. “The need is now. There is incredible demand for supportive services and AmeriCorps members will make such an impact this summer.”
As part of the Emergency Response Initiative, members will serve from June 6 to August 14, 2021. AmeriCorps members will serve 35 hours a week and receive perks including a stipend paid every two weeks (a total of $3,750 for the summer) and an additional $1,300 for student loans or tuition. Members also qualify for individual health insurance at no cost to them and child care assistance is available based on family size and income.
