Math Corps Wins Global Prize

We are honored to share that Math Corps has been awarded Duke University’s Fred Morgan Kirby Prize for Scaling Social Impact! This global prize of $100,000 in unrestricted funds is awarded annually to an enterprise that consistently demonstrates innovative scaling strategies, resistance amid challenges, and powerful evidence of impact.

The prize was announced on February 8, 2022, and you can watch the announcement by clicking the video below.

Since launching in 2008, Math Corps has helped nearly 40,000 students build math skills and confidence. Currently working in 7 states, it has plans to expand and serve thousands more across the nation. Thanks to the generous grant from the F.M. Kirby Foundation this will be possible!

Students who are ready for algebra by the end of eighth grade are better prepared for high school, more likely to attend college and obtain higher paying jobs. Not only does Math Corps deliver evidence-based strategies for math support, it is also part of a national solution to addressing longstanding inequities in education. The AmeriCorps program is working to ensure math success is based on ability and not opportunity by providing access to high quality math support for the most vulnerable learners.

The Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) was very excited about the Impact Potential of Math Corps due to its strong processes, clear plan to scale, and leadership aspects. The program is efficient and effective and continues to improve and invest to help reduce per student costs. The selection committee at CASE was particularly impressed by the racial equity lens that Math Corps applies to both itself and its operations by addressing our most pressing issues through transparency and action.

Math Corps competed with 130 other programs and organizations from around the world for the prize. Learn more by checking out CASE’s recent blog post.
