The Need in Iowa

We know that up until third grade, students are learning to read. After that, they’re reading to learn and need to be good readers to ensure they understand the material. But in Iowa, fewer than one-third of students read at grade level by fourth grade. That’s why high-impact tutoring is so important because it helps students build strong reading skills so they can succeed in their classroom and community!

According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), 29% of students in Iowa achieve reading proficiency by fourth grade. Learn more about NAEP’s achievement levels and how standards are set.
