Mississippi Reading Corps and Mississippi Math Corps

Reading Corps and Math Corps are evidence-based AmeriCorps programs. We partner with schools across the country to provide tutors and extra help for students. Our goal is to ensure that every student is reading well by 3rd grade and is ready for algebra by 9th grade.

We’re excited to be launching in Mississippi for the 2021-22 school year and are looking for great people!

Students make the most progress when consistent help is available so we ask that all tutors commit to completing the school year. Daily start and end times may vary slightly by school or position, but in general, your schedule will align with the regular school day.

Give your time as a tutor and you’ll receive a perks package based on your time commitment.

Perks at 32 hours a week:

  • A stipend of $500 paid every 2 weeks
  • Up to $3,172 for tuition or student loans
  • Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment
  • Individual health insurance — Monthly premium 100% covered
  • Child care assistance — Based on family size and income

Perks at 21 hours a week:

  • A stipend of $325 paid every 2 weeks
  • Up to $2,417 for tuition or student loans
  • Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment

Great tutors come from all walks of life. Whether you are 18 or 85, the most important qualification is a desire to help children succeed. That said, you also need to meet the following minimum qualifications by the time you begin your service.

 Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the beginning of service.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the U.S.*
  • Have not already served 4 terms of service (AmeriCorps state/national programs have a term limit of 4 terms of service)

* Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.
