Expanding Pathways to Teaching in Wisconsin

We’re proud to announce a new opportunity for aspiring educators in Wisconsin! In partnership with Edgewood University in Madison, Wisconsin, Reading Corps and Math Corps tutors and alumni can now earn their master’s degree and teaching license for less than $10,000.

“With nearly 60% of tutors expressing interest in pursuing a career in education following service, we’re committed to building a tutor-to-teacher pipeline,” says Eric Hoffman, Executive Director of Wisconsin Programs. “This new partnership will help our tutors and alumni take that next step. It’s an incredible opportunity and we’re proud to collaborate with Edgewood University in this effort.”

As part of the Accelerated Teacher Education Partnership, Reading Corps and Math Corps tutors and alumni who have already completed a bachelor’s degree can apply to Edgewood’s graduate program and choose to focus on elementary/middle education, secondary education or cross-categorical special education. Once admitted, members and alumni will complete their studies and student teaching over the course of two years. The program is designed with working professionals in mind and offers online courses

As part of the partnership, the total program cost is reduced to less than $10,000. Tutors and alumni can also leverage their Segal Education Award to help pay for the program.

Since the program launched in Wisconsin in 2015, Reading Corps and Math Corps have helped over 25,000 students build skills. This progress simply wouldn’t be possible without the 1,300 community members who have chosen to serve as tutors.

“We’re committed to providing our tutors with an experience that not only allows them to serve their community, but also grow as individuals,” shared Hoffman. “It’s a win-win because Reading Corps and Math Corps work for students, but the programs also work for communities by growing future educators.”
